Wake up, Bills Mafia! The Buffalo Bills have agreed to terms with free agent linebacker A.J. Klein on the first night of legal tampering.

According to SiriusXM’s Adam Caplan, Klein joins Buffalo on a three-year, $18 million contract with $9.7 million being fully guaranteed.

Here is what Bills fans need to know about their newest linebacker.

Carolina connection

Klein, 28, has played for Sean McDermott in his career. The linebacker was a 5th round pick of the Carolina Panthers in the 2013 NFL Draft. At that time, Brandon Beane was the Panthers’ Director of Football Operations. From 2013-2016, Klein played under current Bills head coach Sean McDermott. Klein will enter Buffalo with a firm grasp of the team’s defense.

Versatile

Klein left the Panthers in 2016 and joined the New Orleans Saints. He began his tenure in New Orleans as the Saints’ every-down middle linebacker. In the last two seasons, Klein has served as the Saints’ strong side linebacker.

Special teams contributor

In his three seasons with the Saints, Klein played 318 special teams snaps with 140 coming in 2018. He played more special teams during his time with the Panthers (1,043 in four seasons). Klein will likely contribute on specials teams with Buffalo.

Experienced starter

In three seasons with the Saints, Klein recorded 42 starts in 43 games. In four seasons in Carolina, Klein recorded 23 starts. The veteran adds plenty of starting experience to the defense.
