Alabama has added a second four-star inside linebacker to its 2021 recruiting class.
Kendrick Blackshire, the top-ranked inside linebacker in Texas, announced his commitment to Alabama Tuesday evening.
LSU and Texas A&M were the other two finalists for the 6-foot-2, 245-pound Blackshire, who’s been described as an old school, throwback inside linebacker.
The Duncanville, Texas product is rated as the seventh-best inside linebacker and 152nd-best overall prospect in the 2021 class, per the 247Sports Composite rankings.
Tight end coach Jeff Banks has been the Crimson Tide’s lead recruiter on Blackshire, who becomes commit No. 12 for Alabama.
Banks has been recruiting Blackshire since Blackshire’s freshman year of high school when Banks was still working at Texas A&M.
With Blackshire committing, the Tide now has commitments from two of the top seven inside linebackers in the class. Deontae Lawson, who is ranked as the fifth-best inside linebacker in the 2021 cycle, committed to Alabama in December.
